Whatman Grade 542 acid hardened cellulose filter paper features high wet-strength, high chemical resistance (to both strong acid and alkali suspensions), and high retention of fine precipitates:

  • Acid treated for high wet-strength
  • High chemical resistance to strong acid and alkali suspensions
  • 2.7 µm nominal particle retention rating
  • Slow flow rate (Herzberg filtration speed 2510 s)
  • Maximum of 0.006% ash concentration

Whatman Grade 542 hardened ashless filter paper is well suited for high retention of fine precipitates in applications such as metal determinations and hydroxide collection.

Applications of Whatman Grade 542 papers include:   gravimetric metal determinations and collecting hydroxides after precipitation by strong alkalis.
