Whatman Grade 540 acid hardened cellulose filter paper features high wet-strength, high chemical resistance (to both strong acid and alkali suspensions), and a large nominal particle retention for fast analytical filtration:

Whatman Grade 540 hardened ashless filter paper is well suited for quantitative or gravimetric analysis of strongly acidic or alkaline samples.

Applications of Whatman Grade 540 papers include: gravimetric analysis of metals in acid / alkali solutions and in collecting hydroxides after precipitation by strong alkalis.

Along with the Whatman Grade 540 general-purpose filter paper, the hardened, ashless range from GE Healthcare Life Sciences' includes the fast flow Grade 541 and Grade 542 for fine particle retention - all three paper grades are appropriate for use in gravimetric analysis with strong acids and alkali samples.
